PROSPECT POINT PICNIC AREA PLAYGROUND

This is a fine playground yet I can’t recommend it to anyone because there’s a hot coal disposal pit right next to it. Like who does that? Who in the city approved that this was the best spot for a coal disposal pit? Curious kids like mine obviously went to see why there was smoke coming out from it, climbed on top of it, and used it as a jumping point. 

Yes, I did report it to 311. No, I didn’t get a response. And no, I haven’t gone back since to see if the coal pit was moved to a more suitable spot. It’s just plain annoying. Imagine going there and then spending your entire time hawk eyed that kids don’t touch it because THERE’S HOT COALS INSIDE. Ugh.

On the east side of the playground is an opening through a wooded area that leads to Bridle Path, which is one of the trails that runs through Stanley Park. And visible from the south side of the park is another path called Raccoon Trail. While exploring the forest, we found an old tree stump that the kids said looked like an elephant.

We were pretty blasted by the sun when we visited the Prospect Point Picnic Area playground on a hot summer day. There’s a sheltered picnic area for some reprieve and it’s also where the washrooms are located.

Many use the open field for picnic gatherings and barbeques. There’s also a the baseball diamond in the far corner that I hear is rarely used, which takes the worry away from kids accidentally running into and disrupting a game.

Lastly, there is a paid parking lot here. The meter and signage is located at the entrance to the lot, which I completely missed and thus neglected to pay. Shhhh!

Location information: 

To clear up any confusion, Prospect Point Picnic Area park and Prospect Point are not the same. This one is a park with a field and playground while the latter is a popular viewing point that overlooks Lions Gate bridge. They are near each other but they are different locations.
