WEST POINT GREY COMMUNITY CENTRE PLAYGROUND

This little old playground at West Point Grey Community Centre is mostly enjoyed by the preschool kids that attend here. The most memorable feature is the vintage blue whale, that waits with a smile to take the next kid for a springy ride to nowhere.

There’s an orange spiral slide and a red plastic slide that can be reached via stairs, chain link ladder or mini climbing wall. A steering wheel can be found underneath the main platform. Off to the side are hanging bars at two different heights. How did my two year old like this playground? Well, he thoroughly enjoyed repeatedly throwing his shoes down the spiral slide.

It’s pretty scorching hot here on a peak summer day, due to the lack of shade. I heard that pea gravel can reflect the sun in a harsh way as well, so there’s another thing to worry about while going out with the kids.

One can duck under the big trees closer to the parking lot, or seek out some shade in the green space that’s shared with Aberthau Mansion. There’s a nice lounge and couches in the mansion for some down time if covid protocols allow it, and there are no programs using it at the time. It’s pretty fancy pants in there.
